Big Brothers / Big Sisters

USF BigsBig Brothers Big Sisters wants you to Start Something. Being a Big Brother or Big Sister you have a big opportunity to not only transform a child's life today, but to transform their potential for tomorrow. Almost anyone can be a good mentor- a grown up friend- from college to retired professionals. Basic requirements include a background check, interview, and a commitment of one year. Big Brothers Big Sisters provide training too. There are two options: site-based and community-based. Site- based - Visit your Little at a nearby elementary school or afterschool site one hour per week during the school year, without leaving the site. Community-based- Spend nine hours a month with your Little enjoying free or low cost activities- ride bikes, play games, read a book, wash the car, or just watch a movie.

In the fall of 2003, the Center for Leadership & Civic Engagement established a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay to create the USF Bigs in Schools program. Since this time, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay has matched over 200 USF students each year as mentors to local children in the Tampa Bay community.
